Monday, the National Federation of Small Business begins its annual Oregon summit meeting at Sunriver in Central Oregon. Attendees will mostly talk policy -- with some politics thrown in.
Jan Meekcoms, the NFIB's Oregon director, says her members have been playing close attention to the fortunes of the state budget, with an eye on how tax policy might change. This weekend, panels are scheduled on state finances, government regulation and health care. Meekcoms says small business owners she knows are still uncertain about changes coming into effect as federally-mandated insurance reforms take effect. An administrator from the state?s new health insurance exchange will take questions.
Meekcoms adds there's a lot of interest brewing in next year's state legislative races.
"There's a tremendous number of Democrats that have decided not to run. I think at this point it's six. We're going to look to replace those seats with business experiences, business-friendly individuals."
NFIB does not get involved in primary elections, but will take a role in the general elections scheduled for next year.
