Why Haven't I Found The Cannondale Quick Before?

I've been trying to find a new bike, but it's been difficult to find one that suits the sort of riding I like to do:-

  • I like to cover good distances on the road, but I don't fancy a super road bike with drop handlebars and a painful saddle. I use the bike to travel to work, so I need a practical, relaxing bike that will take a bit of luggage. Mudguards are vital too - I can't turn up at the office covered in mud.
  • Although I like to take the odd trip along a track or path, I recognize that a mountain bike wouldn't be suitable as the thick tyres make riding on the tarmac just too hard - and the road is where I will spend the majority of my time.
The range of bikes in the market is vast, with many manufacturers trying to get a share of the action. So researching the market is not simple. Most bikes I checked out just didn't suit in the least - most of them didn't have the right design attitude They were first-rate for leisure riding. But they just did not have the pace I was after. Then somebody pointed out the Cannondale Quick .

It didn't take me long to come to a decision that, in the Quick, I had found the sort of bike that would suit me ideally:-

  • Light alloy frame, clearly designed with speed in mind. Carbon forks on the higher models in the range.
  • A decent range of gear ratios for (relatively) trouble-free hill-climbing. Once again, the superior bikes in the range have really nice road bike gears- not generally found on hybrid bikes.
  • Mini V-brakes which have lots of power but are easy to keep in good condition, in contrast to the disc brakes you so often find.
  • The wheels on the models towards the top of the range are truly elegant - the paired-spoke arrangement straight out of road-bike territory. OK, a standard arrangement with more spokes will be more durable, but for riding on the road, just great.
  • The prices are not bad. It's true that there are cheaper bikes about. The Quick range starts at around ?600. You can spend up to ?1100 if you want - slightly beyond my price range I have to confess.

So following all this Online research, I made my way to the local Cannondale stockist for a trial ride. I selected a model from around the middle of the range, which appeared to have all the functions that were most important to me. But it was at a price that was not going to break the bank.

The test ride was a revelation. The bike felt pretty nippy and sprightly, yet stable. The carbon forks absorbed most of the road vibration and the seating position was very relaxed indeed, perfect for extended trips. The gear change was smooth, with plenty of low ratios for getting up the hills.

I could imagine myself looking forward to getting on the bike, even following a hard day at the office.

The verdict was a bit of a no-brainer. The order was placed. My bike arrives next week. Can't wait.
