The American Urological Association (AUA) maintains that the Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) test is currently the most widely available means by which physicians can test for prostate cancer. It provides the medical community with the ability to diagnose prostate cancer in its early stages before the cancer has metastasized. L&T Health and Fitness (L&T) supports AUA?s position and feels all discussions around the risks and benefits of the PSA screening and any potential treatments should be thoroughly discussed ?between you and your doctor. The most effective way to prevent advanced (metastatic) prostate cancer is to detect it early. Additionally, L&T believes the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force?s (USPSTF) recommendation disparaging the PSA screening does a great disservice to men with regards to the detection and early treatment for prostate cancer.

Click here for the story that sparked outraged in the medical community when the USPSTF stated healthy men should no longer get screened for prostate cancer with a PSA test because a resulting diagnosis may do more harm than good.

Finally, consider the varying positions and recommendations from multiple recognized health organizations.
